Android O Beta Program officially launches

Posted In NEWS - By DailyNews on Wednesday, May 17th, 2017 With No Comments »

Google didn’t reveal the official name of Android O at its I/O keynote today, but it did make an announcement that’s just about as exciting.

The Android O Beta Program is now live. This means that anyone with an eligible Nexus or Pixel device can now try Android O. The devices that are eligible for the Android O Beta Program include the Pixel XL, Pixel, Pixel C, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and Nexus Player.

If you’ve got one of those devices, you can point your browser to the Android Beta Program’s website and enroll your device. Shortly after you do, you should receive an OTA update to Android O. On my Nexus 6P, the update was a hefty 1053.1MB in size.

Google today also talked a bit about Android O’s features. Those include ones that we already knew about, like picture-in-picture, as well as features like notification dots. Notification dots will appear on an app icon when that app has a notification for you to read. When you long press on the app, you should see the info for that notification. Dismissing the notification will clear the notification dot and the alert from your drop-down menu.

So now that the Android O Beta Program is finally here, are you going to give it a try?
