Samsung isn’t giving up on old devices, even beyond a reasonable 2 year period. The Samsung Galaxy S III is now two years old, with two models succeeding the aging device, yet the company has decided to update most models to the current version of Android. Today, the US Cellular model begins getting its official KitKat update.

The update does quite a bit for this device. KitKat has the new white status bar, providing a cleaner look, as well as a performance boost due to better optimization. This update also offers the “Ok Google” hotword on the homescreen, a new camera, and more. It’s definitely a solid update for the device, and the performance boost will definitely be appreciated by those who still use it.

It’s pretty amazing to see Samsung putting focus on older devices like this, since it’s been more than 2 years since its launch. However, it’s good support and customers of the device who care about updates should be pleased. Unfortunately, as many of you know, Samsung has said that the international Galaxy S III won’t be receiving this update. How many of you still use a Galaxy S III? Leave a comment!
