Xiaomi has officially launched the Xiaomi 18 Fold in China, confirming pricing and full specifications for its first wide-screen “mid-fold” phone.
The device went on sale September 10 starting at CNY 10,999, roughly $1,640, reportedly selling around 36,000 units on its opening day according to industry tracker RD Observation.
The Android device arrived just a day before Apple’s own foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, made its debut.
What Xiaomi Actually Announced
The 18 Fold ships in five configurations, topping out at CNY 15,999, about $2,385, for a Ceramic Special Edition limited to 1,500 units with a silicon nitride back.
Standard tiers range from 12GB+256GB wth LPDDR5 to 16GB+1TB with LPDDR6 memory, with the base 256GB option giving most users a practical starting point when considering how much storage they actually need.
The phone pairs a 5.38-inch outer AMOLED display (120Hz, 1168×1712 resolution) protected by Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0 with a 7.58-inch 120Hz inner panel (2364×1672) featuring dual-layer UTG glass.
At 219g and 5.02mm unfolded, it also features an asymmetric cover screen design.
Camera, Chip, and Durability Details Are Now Confirmed
Xiaomi’s Leica partnership delivers a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide, alongside a second selfie camera built into the cover display.
Powering it all is the XRing O3, Xiaomi’s second in-house chip, paired with ChangXin Memory Technologies’ LPDDR6 RAM reaching 12,800Mbps, making the 18 Fold the first commercial phone to ship with that memory standard.
Packing a 3nm chip into a thin foldable naturally raises heat concerns, but early reviews haven’t pushed its limits yet.
A 6,000mAh battery supports 67W wired and 50W wireless charging, and the phone runs HyperOS 4 built on Android 17.
Xiaomi also confirmed IP58 and IP59 ratings at launch, covering dust resistance plus both freshwater and high-pressure water jet protection, a detail that wasn’t disclosed when the device was first shown behind glass at IFA in Berlin.
Availability, Competition, and Early Reception
Xiaomi has not announced international pricing or a release window, following the Mix Fold series’ pattern of reaching select overseas markets months later.
Huawei’s Mate XT2, a separate tri-fold device, launched the same week at CNY 19,999, while Apple’s iPhone Duo arrived a day after Xiaomi’s China sales began, making September unusually crowded for foldables.
Early reviewers generally praised the 18 Fold’s body and camera system, though several flagged a more visible screen crease and slightly greater thickness than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.
With day-one sales holding up against that level of competition, the 18 Fold now sits alongside a growing list of the best Android phones shaping where wide-screen foldables are heading.
