Two Samsung stories landed within a day of each other this week, and together they paint an odd picture for Galaxy owners: pay more for the phone you want today, while the software that’s supposed to justify owning it tomorrow is still barely more than a name on a changelog.
The Price Hike, in Real Numbers
Samsung has raised prices on the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra by at least $100 across the board, even though most configurations were already pricier than their Galaxy S25 equivalents at launch back in March.
As Engadget notes, the base Galaxy S26 with 256GB now starts at $1,000, a full $200 more than the equivalent S25. Step up to 512GB, and it’s $1,200. The S26+ runs $1,200 for 256GB and $1,400 for 512GB.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra took the biggest hit: $1,400 for 256GB, $1,600 for 512GB, and $2,000 for the 1TB model, which jumped by $200 rather than the standard $100 bump.
The Galaxy S26 FE is the only current model that avoided the increase entirely.
Samsung’s Mobile eXperience division reported a rare quarterly loss in Q2 2026, blamed on rising component costs, particularly RAM and storage.
Meanwhile, One UI 9.5 Finally Gets a Name-Check
Fresh off rolling out stable One UI 9 to the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung has already mentioned One UI 9.5 officially for the first time.
According to SamMobile, the reference appeared in an update changelog for the Nearby Device Scanning app (v11.1.24.8), which lists “One UI 9.5 updates” alongside Quick Pair popup support and stability fixes.
While Samsung hasn’t shared release details yet, this early app-level reference indicates internal development is moving fast on what comes next.
What This Means If You’re Buying Now
Paying more upfront with no clearer picture of what’s next isn’t ideal.
If you can wait, Engadget notes Prime Big Deal Days and Black Friday are both approaching.
If you need a phone now, the price you see today may already reflect where Samsung’s whole lineup is heading.
