OnePlus has spent the past couple of weeks drip-feeding details on its next flagship, and now the timeline is official. The company confirmed on Weibo that the OnePlus 16 will debut in China on October 12, exactly two weeks from now.
Built for Gamers, and It Shows
The headline spec is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, the same processor Motorola Signature 27 is being shipped with.
The company specifically highlighted the chip’s GPU with Matrix Cores, a feature limited to the Extreme tier. OnePlus is also pairing it with a 185Hz refresh rate, plus custom touch and Wi-Fi chips aimed at smoother gaming.
Qualcomm’s silicon supports 8K/60fps video and 4K/240fps slow motion, but OnePlus hasn’t said whether the OnePlus 16 will expose them. Android Authority’s Hadlee Simons doesn’t expect it to, given the phone’s performance-first positioning.
A Genuine Camera Jump
Earlier teasers already showed a notable step up from the OnePlus 15.
The main camera is a 200MP 1/1.4-inch sensor, backed by a 50MP 3x telephoto using the IMX882 and a 50MP ultrawide.
Buyers also get an XPAN-style mode and a Master Mode, which should appeal to anyone who likes more manual control over their shots.
The Catch: You Probably Can’t Buy It Locally
OnePlus no longer operates in the US or Europe, so fans there will need to import the phone.
That means paying grey-market premiums and skipping local warranty support, so it’s worth weighing carefully before pulling the trigger.
Price is another open question. Android Authority warns the OnePlus 16 could cost more than the OnePlus 15 at home, since the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is rumored to be far pricier than last year’s Elite Gen 5.
Rising memory costs from the ongoing RAM crisis don’t help either.
For mobile gamers and camera enthusiasts willing to import, the OnePlus 16 looks like a top contender. For everyone else, it remains a phone to watch from afar until global pricing and availability are settled at the October 12 reveal.
